Lockdown Snapshots: Wildflower Walkway

It’s been about two months now since the lockdown began here in Ireland. It feels like two years. We’ve slowly gotten used to the new routine, and while frustrating, it’s become par for the course. Everyday, I get up and try and go for a walk to get some exercise, but the government guidelines until recently were to stay within 2km. This has made it seem like the world has collapsed to a much smaller place than it previously was. I guess this is what it was like in olden times when people rarely strayed past their villages.

I’m lucky in that I can work from home, but I miss going out and taking photos. At first I snuck in a few cheeky shots on my iPhone of the nature and growth around me as I would venture out on my daily allowed exercise. Everywhere had started to become more and more overgrown, and there were lots of flowers sprouting up. The paths had become a tapestry of green and yellow. I didn’t want to use a camera because I feared people would judge me harshly (for it not being essential work, and also I would be blocking the path to an extent)

Eventually though, as things become a bit more relaxed, I realised I was just being paranoid, and I also really felt the need to take photos. In a field which was part of my exercise route, there was a particular patch of wildflowers, consisting of dandelion seed heads, buttercups and other wild flowers, that I kept passing and really wanted to capture. I brought my little compact Canon G7X with me as I figured this would be unobtrusive and wouldn’t cause any consternation from passers by, and so I managed to get my photography fix.

Since the lockdown began I’ve had a newfound respect for nature. I’ve noticed that with the reduction in human activity, you notice your surroundings more. I’ve always had an eye for this sort of thing, but lately it has been more prominent, and I’ve even noticed that the birds are much louder.
